“The city is a blank, endless sheet on which to write, incise, graffiti, draw and remember.”

Painter. Bologna, since 1962.

Brief introduction

Cesare Cesarini (Bologna, 1941) trained at his city's Art Institute and has been active since 1962, when Francesco Arcangeli singled out his debut at the «Mostra d'autunno» in Palazzo Re Enzo. Rooted in the abstract-informel tradition, he has sustained six decades of research holding together painting, matter and writing: from the early inks on paper to the textile collages of his homage to Rimbaud, from the scenic environments devoted to the Gothic novel and new horror — debated at the opening by Umberto Eco, Guido Fink and Giovanna Franci — to the cycles on the encounter between art and fashion, up to the painterly reworking of graffiti and wall traces.

His works are on permanent display at Boston University and in public and private collections in Italy and the United States. As a graphic artist and illustrator he has worked for the Academy of Sciences, the University of Bologna and the daily «la Repubblica».
